In June 2012, a visionary group of writers, artists, educators, and philanthropists came together with a shared mission: to transform the world through storytelling. Five days later, Narrative 4 was born.
Today, Narrative 4 is a global nonprofit dedicated to empowering young people to cultivate empathy through the power of personal stories. At the core of its work is the Story Exchange—a transformative experience where students pair up to share their personal narratives and then retell each other’s stories in the first person. This innovative approach fosters deep human connection, helping participants see the world through another person’s perspective.
Operating in classrooms, after-school programs, and communities around the world, Narrative 4 equips educators with tools including Story Exchanges, artist collaborations, educational resources, and civic engagement projects—all designed to turn empathy into meaningful action.
